UPDATING OUR SOCIO-ECONOMIC SYSTEM TO PRESENT DAY KNOWLEDGE
There is a growing global social movement that argues for a large-scale change in human culture, specifically in the context of economic practice. In short, the dominant theme regarding our new shared modern scientific understandings is that the current socioeconomic system governing the world at this time has severe structural flaws, born out of primitive economic and sociological assumptions originating in our early history, where the inherent severity of these flaws went largely unnoticed.
However, in the early 21st century, these problems have risen prominently, taking the consequential form of increasing social destabilization and ongoing environmental collapse. This isn't simply about explaining such problems and their root causality - it is also about posing concrete solutions, coupled with a new perspective on social/environmental sustainability and efficiency which, in concert with the tremendous possibility of modern technology and a phenomenon known as ephemeralization, reveals humanity's current capacity to create an abundant, post-scarcity reality.
While largely misunderstood as being 'utopian' or fantasy, a life-coherent Natural Law / Resource-based Economic model is the intuitively self-evident solution arrived at by following the step by step train-of-thought and technical industrial reordering needed to update our global society (and its values) to enable these profound new possibilities.
Project Sanity, along with many other organisations on the planet Earth working towards this goal, hopes those interested in this direction will join the growing social immune system response in global solidarity and assist in the culmination of this new social model, for the benefit of the whole of humanity.
WHAT ABOUT REFORM? CAN'T WE JUST WORK TO 'FIX' AND 'IMPROVE' THE CURRENT MONETARY-BASED ECONOMIC MODEL?
While intermediate Life Capital reform steps and temporal community life-support are of interest to Project Sanity, the defining goal is the installation of a new life-coherent socioeconomic model based upon technically responsible resource management, allocation and design through what would be considered the scientific method of reasoning problems and finding optimized solutions.
This life-grounded resource-based economic model is about taking a direct technical approach to life-coherent social management as opposed to a monetary or even political one. It is about updating the workings of society to the most advanced and proven methods known, leaving behind the damaging consequences and limiting inhibitions which are generated by our current system of life-blind monetary exchange, profit, business and other structural and motivational issues.
This life-grounded approach to Earth management is counterintuitive to those who have been conditioned to accept the current monetary-based economic model as 'natural' and time immemorial; and hence by default, many today therefore cannot currently fathom any other method of social operation other than the market model we endure today (that is, absurdly "the best of possible worlds is a money-price gain for the exchangers." Centuries of imposed life-blind social conditioning is why the educational imperative for this new life-grounded socioeconomic model exists.
Sadly, the majority of intelligent and outspoken activist institutions and figures seeking what they call 'change' are not going far enough in their thinking today to create true change towards a truly sustainable world. The true scope of how our socioeconomic system unnecessarily diminishes our public health and inhibits our progress today can only be recognized clearly when we take a more detached technical or scientific perspective of social affairs, bypassing our traditional, often blinding familiarities.
WHAT IS A RESOURCE-BASED ECONOMIC MODEL?
The term and meaning of a resource-based economy was originated by Jacque Fresco of The Venus Project.
Before his death, Mr Fresco worked for over 80 years to establish the technical methods and educational imperatives which can transition society away from its current cycles of war, perpetual poverty and pervasive corruption into an improved social design based on environmental alignment, practicality, peak efficiency, and most critically: a heightened standard of living, personal freedom and well-being for not just one nation or class, but for the entire human family.
The ultimate materialization of these ideas is in the form of a new social design updated to present-day knowledge. In summary, a resource-based economy is an holistic socioeconomic system which utilizes resources rather than commerce. All goods and services are available without the use of currency credit, barter, or any form of debt or servitude.
The aim of this new social design is to free humanity from the repetitive, mundane and arbitrary occupational roles which hold no true relevance to social development; while also encouraging a new incentive system, that is focused on self-fulfillment, education, social awareness and creativity, as opposed to the contrived, shallow, self-interested, corruption-generating goals of wealth, property and power which are dominant today.
The enabling foundation of this concept is the realization that through the intelligent management of the Earth's resources - along with the liberal application of modern technology and science - we have the ability to create a near global abundance on this planet and thus escape the detrimental consequences generated by the real and artificial scarcity and waste which is dominant today.
What is advocated here is merely the next step in our social evolution; as dictated not by a person or group's 'opinion' but rather by statistics, trends, basic inference and extrapolation - all deduced by the scientific method.
The premise upon which this new social system is based is that Earth is abundant with plentiful resources; and given the emerging scientific and technological trends at hand at this stage of human evolution, our practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is now irrelevant and counterproductive to our survival. This new reality can provably create a high quality of life for the entire world population many times over.
Money is only important in a society when certain resources for survival must be rationed and the people accept money as an exchange medium for the scarce resources. Money is a social convention, an agreement if you will. Contrary to many imposed 'opinions' today, money is neither a natural resource nor does it represent one. It is not necessary for survival unless we have been conditioned to accept it as such. A quick review of history reveals that the human species has gone through many transforming social shifts in the past, and hence it is absurd to assume that the current imposed 'way of life' is empirical to the human condition.
Obviously, change of this magnitude will not be brought about by one organization alone. There are now many global organizations working towards the installation of this type of socioeconomic system on the planet Earth - all advocating the same basic underlying train of thought towards a new social model and sustainable world society and culture.
The pivotal and near-empirical train of thought that defines a resource-based economic model has been developing for centuries, and hence no one 'owns' it in and of itself. It transcends all individuals and all generations. There is no opinion or cultural relativism to this scientific approach towards Earth management.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE "ECONOMIC CALCULATION PROBLEM" ? IT SIMPLY ISN'T POSSIBLE TO ALLOCATE RESOURCES "EFFICIENTLY" WITHOUT MONEY / A MEDIUM OF EXCHANGE !?
This old argument that persists is based on a set of presuppositions that are simply no longer viable, given our modern emerging understandings in this regard (as outlined in the testable examples below).
